NaturesTurf®
Pre-grown Native Grassland Community
Download Product Spec Sheet >

NaturesTurf® is a pre-grown native grassland system designed to remove the uncertainty of establishing native vegetation from seed. Grown in an intensive open air nursery setting, using regionally apprporiate species, NaturesTurf® is delivered fully vegetated in a sod-like format with a fully intact root system providing built-in erosion control, and instant vegetative cover from the moment it's installed.

Ideal for projects where traditional seeding is too slow, inconsistent, or high-risk due to site conditions or timelines, NaturesTurf® offers a reliable, scalable, and ecologically sound path to successful establishment of native plant communities.

When NaturesTurf®
Is the Right Choice

NaturesTurf® is specified when:

  • Native plant communities are desired, but sourcing and planting individual plants is toocostly or establishment through seed is too slow and inconsistent.
  • Site conditions make it challenging to establish native plants from seed including steepslopes, surrounding weed pressure, limited access, soil erosion or fluctuating waterlevels.
  • The site is in a public facing setting and waiting 2-3 years for native seed toestablish is not acceptable.

NaturesTurf® delivers a diverse plant community on day one.

Engineered From the
Roots Up

NaturesTurf® was designed for native plants:

  • Native grasses and wildflowers grown in a soil-less growing medium.
  • Reinforced with a natural fibre biodegradable blanket.
  • Nursery raised from seed to ship.
  • Shipped with root system fully intact for quick and vigourous establishment.

The innovation packed into NatureTurf® ensures your project closes fast and provides the asthetic your intended.

NaturesTurf™ is grown as a dense mat of native grass species on a biodegradable erosion control blanket. Unlike conventional sod, the plant roots are not cut during harvest. Instead, the root systems remain intact within the growing medium.

This allows the product to be rolled, transported, and installed without stressing the plants.
Once installed, the roots actively grow into the underlying soil, supporting continuedestablishment and long-term site adaptation.

Immediate vegetative cover is achieved at installation.

Common
applications
include:

  • Municipal parks and open spaces requiring a natural asthetic.
  • Stormwater ponds, rain gardens & other LID Infrastructure corridors.
  • Sloped or erosion-prone sites.
  • Land reclamation & disturbed sites.
  • Commercial & Institutional Campuses.
  • Green Roofs.

  • Weed suppression: Full coverage helps suppress weeds and limits establishment of wind-blown weed seeds.
  • Annual mowing: After establishment, mow once annually in early spring.
  • Mow height & setting: Mow at 5–6 inches on a mulch setting.
  • Fertilization: Fertilize at installation, and annually with a balanced controlled-release N-P-K product.

Learn more about NaturesTurf®

The Tender Side of NaturesTurf™

NaturesTurf™ is new and limited on the market, there isn’t yet widespread familiarity with how it looks when it first arrives. Most installers and landscape contractors are accustomed to laying traditional sod, which is lush, bright green, and nearly picture-perfect the moment it hits the ground. NaturesTurf™ doesn’t arrive like this. We like to say it’s still building its potential prairie purpose, whether on the big roll tube or as soon as it’s installed on site, there is activity happening in every square foot.

Drought Tolerance is an Adaptation for our Ecoregion.

When designing products for naturalization or reclamation, we always use nature as our guide and select specific species based on their various adaptations. One of these adaptations is drought tolerance.
