SedumTurf
Extreme drought-tolerant groundcover in an east-to-install format.
Download Product Spec Sheet >

SedumTurf is composed of a diverse selection of sedum species grown on a soil-less growing medium reinforced with a biodegradable fibre base. Designed as an alternative groundcover, SedumTurf provides a colourful, extremely drought-tolerant planting system suited to prairie climates.

Each blend contains a minimum of 12 sedum species, creating a dynamic mix of foliage colours and flowering patterns that change throughout the growing season. Species composition may vary depending on seasonal availability.

When SedumTurf
Is the Right Choice

  • A project requires low-maintenance groundcover with strong drought tolerance
  • 80-90% sun-exposed landscapes require plants adapted to heat and dry conditions
  • Lower foot-trafic areas
  • Traditional turfgrass is not appropriate for the site
  • A project needs fast, reliable groundcover establishment

SedumTurf delivers resilient vegetation with strong visual impact.

Reliable Establishment

  • SedumTurf is grown as a diverse blend of sedum species in a 35–40 mm soil-less growing medium supported by a biodegradable fibre base
  • The plants establish together during production, forming a cohesive mat that can be handled, transported, and installed as a single planting unit.
  • Once installed, the sedums root into the underlying soil while the coconut fibre base gradually biodegrades.
  • This format allows SedumTurf to establish quickly while developing into a dense, drought-tolerant groundcover community.

SedumTurf is grown as a diverse blend of sedum species within a soil-less growing medium supported by a biodegradable fibre base. Unlike planting individual sedum plugs, the plants are established together during production as a cohesive vegetated mat.

This allows the product to be handled, transported, and installed as a stable planting unit without disturbing the plants.

Once installed, the sedums quickly root into the underlying soil while the fibre base gradually biodegrades, allowing the planting to integrate naturally with the site. Immediate groundcover is achieved at installation, supporting rapid establishment and long-term drought-tolerant performance.

Common
applications
include:

  • Low-maintenance landscape groundcover
  • Municipal and commercial landscapes
  • Drought-tolerant gardens
  • Pollinator-friendly planting areas
  • Projects where turfgrass maintenance is undesirable

Shipping

  • SedumTurf is sold in individual units measuring 27 cm × 53 cm (approximately 1.5 sq ft) and 35–40 mm thick.
  • Units are stacked on 48″ × 48″ pallets for efficient shipping and handling.
  • Each pallet typically contains 160 SedumTurf pieces, equaling approximately 240 sq ft of coverage.
  • The fibre base and growing medium help maintain patch integrity during shipping and site handling.
  • SedumTurf is shipped during the active growing season to align with project installation schedules.

Installation

  • SedumTurf can be installed as full coverage or spaced between 50-75%, allowing plants to spread and fill gaps over time.
  • Soil preparation is simple — existing garden soil, loam, or screened topsoil can be used.
  • Installation is ~20% slower due to NaturesTurf® tenderness and thickness.
  • Remove visible weeds prior to installation and lightly wet the soil surface.
  • Apply a balanced organic fertilizer before installation.
  • Water deeply after planting and then every 2–3 days until plants have rooted into the soil.

Maintenance

  • After establishment, water only occasionally during periods of drought.
  • A deep watering in fall and again in early spring helps maintain plant health.
  • If desired, apply a balanced controlled-release fertilizer in spring.
  • SedumTurf tolerates occasional foot traffic but should not be used in high-traffic areas.
  • Avoid walking on the plants during winter dormancy.
  • Trimming then leaving cuttings behind can help to fill empty spaces if cuttings are left on bare soil.
