Sedums
Individual drought-tolerant sedum varieties for added diversity and design flexibility
Download Product Spec Sheet >

As landscape designs evolve, additional diversity can be introduced through individual sedum varieties. EcoLogic offers a range of individual sedum cultivars to complement SedumTurf, LiveRoof systems, or standalone landscape designs.

These varieties provide flexibility in planting design while maintaining the durability and drought tolerance sedums are known for. These plants allow designers and contractors to enhance visual interest, increase species diversity, and refine planting layouts using proven, prairie-hardy sedum species.

When to choose Sedums
for your landscape design

  • A project requires added diversity within an existing SedumTurf or green roof system.
  • Designers want specific colours, textures, or plant forms.
  • A planting requires targeted infill or spot planting.
  • Projects benefit from drought-tolerant, low-input plant material.
  • A landscape requires flexibility beyond pre-grown systems,

Sedums provide adaptable plant material that supports both design intent and long-term performance.

Naturally Adapted for
Drought-Tolerance

  • Sedums are selected for their ability to perform in sun-exposed, low-moisture environments.
  • These plants are well-suited to challenging conditions and can thrive in a wide range of soil types. Once established, they require minimal inputs and are capable of spreading to fill available space.
  • Their growth habit allows them to integrate naturally into surrounding plantings while contributing to overall system resilience and visual diversity.

Sedums are provided as individual, established plants grown in containers, allowing for precise placement and design flexibility within a landscape. Unlike pre-grown mats or seeded systems, each plant can be positioned intentionally to achieve specific visual and ecological outcomes.

This allows designers and installers to adapt layouts in real time, introducing diversity exactly where it is needed without being constrained by fixed formats.

Once installed, sedums root into the surrounding soil and gradually spread, integrating into the planting while enhancing coverage over time. The result is a flexible, drought-tolerant planting system that supports both immediate design intent and long-term landscape performance.

Common
applications
include:

  • Enhancing diversity in SedumTurf installations.
  • Green roof systems (LiveRoof®)
  • Drought-tolerant landscape design
  • Rock gardens and sun-exposed planting areas
  • Targeted infill planting within existing landscapes

Shipping

  • Sedums are shipped in 4.5″ square pots, allowing for easy handling, transport, and staging on site.
  • The container format protects root systems during shipping and installation.
  • Suitable for both small quantities and larger project orders depending on availability.
  • Potted format allows for easy distribution across job sites and precise placement during installation.
  • Shipping is aligned with project timing and seasonal availability.

Installation

  • Sedums perform best in full sun conditions and will not thrive in partial or full shade.
  • Sedums are not sensitive to soil type and can be planted in existing garden soil, loam, or screened topsoil.
  • Prepare soil by removing visible weeds and shaping the area as desired.
  • Lightly wet the soil and apply a balanced organic fertilizer prior to planting.
  • Sedums can be installed in full coverage or spaced layouts, depending on design intent.
  • Water deeply after planting and then every 2–3 days until roots are established.

Maintenance

  • After establishment, water only occasionally during major drought conditions.
  • A deep watering in fall and early spring supports plant health.
  • Apply a balanced controlled-release fertilizer in spring if desired.
  • Bi-weekly weeding is recommended, especially during early establishment.
  • Broadleaf herbicides should not be used on sedums.
  • For maintaining species diversity, mow or trim 1–2 times per growing season.
  • If winter damage (e.g., snow mold) occurs, remove affected material to allow healthy plants to re-establish.
